An Apology

After all these years of random explosions about the Jesus Taliban, I find myself in the mood for an apology.

This all started because Bill Nye (The Science Guy) decided to lower himself (and science by proxy) to the level of Ken Ham and this "young earth" creationism/intelligent design delusion in that sort-of, maybe-in-another-definition, public relations clusterfuck "debate" thing. In the ensuing (and entirely predictable) uproar, the Reverend Pat Robertson has stepped into the breach and messed up all of my previously well-learned opinions of him. As one of the leading voices advocating theocratic fascism in America, I have come to expect nothing but sheer tyranny By God (in Jesus name) out of him.

Not once, but twice in recent days, I have read stories of Pat speaking at different times and on different broadcasts, to the issue of "young earth" creationism on his flagship television program and, in no uncertain terms, deny this stuff has any validity. The last time I checked, the indefatigable Mr. Ham is calling out Reverend Robertson to "debate" the issue. Something like a Jesus Cage Match, complete with refreshments (insert tacky sacrament joke here).

Hey, Pat.... I'll take back at least a significant percentage of all those things I've thought/spoken/written about you and your particular breed of weirdness lo these many years as long as you tell Ken Ham that you refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

You have done a great deal to redeem yourself with your staunch defense of reality in this particular instance, please don't screw it up by emulating Bill Nye.

Lawsuit Factory....

That malignant lawsuit factory masquerading as a Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas lost their founding father.

What, and I'm supposed to shed crocodile tears over the death of a well and truly deluded human who spent his life spreading disinformation (read: outright lies) about gay folks and America, "protesting" at military funerals and then going to court to win judgments on 1st Amendment grounds? Sorry, ain't happening.

Now, maybe, we can move along a more rational path without the delusional foolishness. Unless, of course, the remaining family members see to it that ugly still has a place in our public discourse.... How the fuck else do you define "asshole" without something to point at?

Gun Control?

I get pretty damn disgusted with the way that the general media shorthand of "gun control" gets blathered about. A gun is an inanimate object created by human ingenuity and inventiveness, the debate somehow leads to the impression that guns are a problem.

This is arrant nonsense, it's about time the debate shifted into reality. The problem is most definitely not the guns in and of themselves, it's a fucking HUMAN problem! The roots of this are in the nature of our system of government as laid out in the Second Amendment to the Constitution and our collective frame of mind as Americans coupled with who we are as a species living in a rather twisted world of our own creation. No amount of "feel-good, look-good" legislative or executive action that has, as its focus, guns, will do anything to address the underlying problem of our collective psychopathology in the 21st century.

I have no ready answers. Give me some time and I may be able to come up with suggestions.... meanwhile, lets quit with this simpleminded drivel about "gun control" lest I lose control of my gag reflex and go find a politician or pundit to spew my last meal on. I hate wasting a good meal.

Lies

Can't remember who said it, maybe Sam Clemens or H. L. Mencken... is something like:
"There's lies, damn lies and then there's statistics."

We have entered an age of complete information confusion because of that pithy bit of wisdom. I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time exercising my internal bullshit filter just to get to the reality of our everyday lives, lots of garbage, not enough reality.

I'll try and post more frequently as I've finally landed in a place and time where that becomes possible again.

Willard?

Now, this is rather amusing...

When I was a child growing up in suburban Detroit my parents were apparently devoted Republicans and, as such, played host to the Governor at that time in our house for some kind of political function. Me being totally clueless, I did what was expected of me, being a child of the era, and was "seen but not heard" while the local Republican elite gathered in our living room to hear whatever George Romney had to say.... I have absolutely no memory of the particular verbiage bandied about (thankfully) but I can't help but wonder, given current events, what might have been if I had changed up into "obscene and herd" mode at some highly inappropriate moment of the proceedings....

Willard might not be.... a moment in history was in my grasp and I fluffed it. Had I decided to defecate in the back seat of his car or spike his drink with vodka from mom and dad's liquor cabinet or any of a thousand other little weirdnesses we might not be looking at his clownish, clueless, rapacious and useless son as a "Presidential Candidate" today.

And so much for that.
